Honey Grant joined City Cycle Sales in 1979 as a sales person when the primary bikes offered by the dealership included Harley-Davidson and Yamaha and is still in place over 30 years later, now serving as General Manager.
City Cycle Sales, Inc. of Junction City, Kansas, began in 1962 as a part-time hobby business by Wayne A. Jaecke with $500.00 cash, five Harley-Davidsons on consignment and a lot of hope. When the shop grew into a full time venture, he left his father's stone quarry business.  Wayne's' first wife Rosalie joined him, keeping books, selling parts and motorcycles, doing payroll and a multitude of other tasks while Wayne turned wrenches. Eventually his children and grandchildren became involved in the day-to-day operations. By today's standards, it truly was a mom and pop operation, with slow yet steady growth. Due primarily to the outlaw image motorcyclists had at the time; arranging financing was challenging, making bike sales difficult, yet the Jaecke's persevered.  As it has matured over the years the store has been housed in 6 different locations, each a little larger and progressively nicer than its predecessor.

Harley-Davidson had been the foundation on which the business was built, so when they began urging the operation to expand and modernize, Wayne listened. He decided to start planning to move to his sixth location, the only totally new facility the dealership has ever occupied since starting the business over forty years prior. The location he chose is exceptional, with frontage along heavily-traveled Interstate 70 in eastern Kansas. It offers clear visibility from the roadway from both directions with easy access via the frontage road and situated as closely to the interstate as possible.  This location offers access ramps 1/2 mile away in both directions on the east/west interstate highway, a major scenic north/south route at one of these.  The acreage he selected also has a 30 foot slope, which makes a very practical multi-level dealership with a drive-in basement to greatly aid in access to storage and dock areas.
Wayne wanted a department or specialty store feel to the new building, and we believe he accomplished this goal.  His next goal is to celebrate 50 years in business, which will take place in 2012.

The hard work and planning all paid off as the staff of City Cycle Sales celebrated Wayne's birthday with him on August 22, 2005 by opening the doors of the totally new City Cycle Sales to the public.  With the beautiful modern building and large signage, travelers cannot miss the store and can easily exit to circle back to the shop approximately 20 seconds after seeing it.

History:
Wayne began tinkering with motorclyclesat a young age. He had friends who looked up to him and admired his mechanical abilities. He developed an honest, hard-working reputation among the community and surrounding states. Riders came from neighboring states to purchase their bikes and have them serviced by Wayne. This reputation continues even today as the shop has grown in size and staff.

Wayne A. Jaecke raced his Harley-Davidsons in the early days. Back then, Michigan’s grueling two-day 500 mile Jack Pine Enduro was the biggest off-road event of the year. From 1923 through 1955, riders on Harley-Davidsons won 22 of 28 Jack Pines. Wayne raced in the Jack Pine Enduro placing not once but three years in a row.

Wayne raced at Daytona in the days that they actually raced on the beach.
